Robert Hunt Memorial, historic Jamestown, Virginia. This respected priest celebrated one of the first Eucharists in Robert Hunt Memorial, Historic Jamestown, Virginia; the town was Virginia’s first settlement and capital. Hunt, a courageous and well-loved priest, celebrated the first Eucharist in North America (though Canadians also claim the first, offshore) at the English colony. The town lasted about a century, until a disastrous fire caused the town to be dissolved and the capital to be moved to nearby Williamsburg. Jamestown, now an island, is still populated but no longer a town. (National Park Service)
