The Rev. George Fox lied about his age to enlist as a medic in World War I and was highly decorated for heroism. After discharge he returned home to Altoona, Pennsylvania, finished high school and attended the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, then began ministry as an itinerant preacher. He was ordained in The Methodist Church in 1934 and served several churches in Vermont. He returned to active duty as an Army chaplain in 1943 on the same day his son Wyatt enlisted in the U.S. Marines.
