Jesus asked “What do you want me to do for you?”
An amazing thing about the Early Church is the greatness of the bishops who led it, shaping the faith from the very beginning. Irenaeus is known as a heresy fighter (including against the pope at the time), but the conflict helped establish an important principle: amidst all the human speculation about the Father and the Son, Irenaeus spoke with authority, having learned the faith from St. Polycarp, who was taught by St. John the Evangelist. Thus apostolic continuity, against persecutions and heresies, became a central feature of Christian teaching. (iconographer unknown)

and praise God in the council of the elders.

As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. There were two blind men sitting by the roadside. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they shouted, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” The crowd sternly ordered them to be quiet; but they shouted even more loudly, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!” Jesus stood still and called them, saying, “What do you want me to do for you?” They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they regained their sight and followed him.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.
