I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Swiss banking authorities engineered a takeover Sunday of troubled Credit Suisse by its rival across the street, United Bank of Switzerland, for the bargain price of $3.25 billion; two days before, Credit Suisse had a market value of $8 billion. Wall Street and Washington applauded the deal, but analysts warn that the banking crisis is not over. UBS and Credit Suisse both got their start in the late 19th century; UBS is known as the conservative, boring firm, while Credit Suisse was known as more aggressive with risk. Together they gave “Swiss bank accounts” their reputation for reliability, wisdom and privacy, but CS’s emergency bailout will likely bury that image. (Michael Buholzer/Keystone)
We give thanks to the Father, who has made us worthy to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. Colossians 1:12
INVITATORY AND PSALTER
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen.
Hymn: O Gracious Light
O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.
Psalm 34
1 At all times I will bless the LORD; *
whose praise shall ever be in my mouth.
2 I will glory in the LORD; *
let the humble hear and rejoice.
3 Proclaim with me the greatness of the LORD; *
let us exalt the Name of the LORD together.
4 I sought the LORD, who answered me *
and delivered me out of all my terror.
5 Look upon the LORD and be radiant, *
and let not your faces be ashamed.
6 I called in my affliction and the LORD heard me *
and saved me from all my troubles.
7 The angel of the LORD encompasses the God-fearing, *
and the LORD will deliver them.
8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; *
happy are they who trust in the LORD!
9 Fear the LORD, you holy ones, *
for those who are God-fearing lack nothing.
10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger, *
but those who seek the LORD lack nothing that is good.
11 Come, children, and listen to me; *
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 Who among you loves life *
and desires long life to enjoy prosperity?
13 Keep your tongue from evil-speaking *
and your lips from lying words.
14 Turn from evil and do good; *
seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, *
and the ears of the LORD are open to their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, *
to root out the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD hears them *
and delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted *
and will save those whose spirits are crushed.
19 Many are the troubles of the righteous, *
but the LORD will deliver the just out of them all.
20 The LORD will keep safe the bones of the righteous; *
not one of them shall be broken.
21 Evil shall slay the wicked, *
and those who hate the righteous will be punished.
22 The LORD ransoms the life of those chosen to serve, *
and none will be punished who trust in the LORD.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
THE LESSONS
2 Chronicles 6:12-17 (NRSV)
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands. Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the court; and he stood on it. Then he knelt on his knees in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven. He said, “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant in steadfast love with your servants who walk before you with all their heart—you who have kept for your servant, my father David, what you promised to him. Indeed, you promised with your mouth and this day have fulfilled with your hand. Therefore, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for your servant, my father David, that which you promised him, saying, ‘There shall never fail you a successor before me to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children keep to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’ Therefore, O LORD, God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you promised to your servant David.”
Canticle: The Song of Mary
Luke 1:46-55
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in you, O God my Savior, *
for you have looked with favor on your lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed: *
you, the Almighty, have done great things for me,
and holy is your Name.
You have mercy on those who fear you *
from generation to generation.
You have shown strength with your arm, *
and scattered the proud in their conceit,
Casting down the mighty from their thrones, *
and lifting up the lowly.
You have filled the hungry with good things, *
and sent the rich away empty.
You have come to the help of your servant Israel, *
for you have remembered your promise of mercy,
The promise made to our forebears, *
to Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:14-21 (NRSV)
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Canticle: The Song of Simeon
Luke 2:29-32
Lord, you now have set your servant free *
to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, *
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations, *
and the glory of your people Israel.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: St. Joseph
O God, who from the family of your servant David raised up Joseph to be the guardian of your incarnate Son and the spouse of his virgin mother: Give us grace to imitate his uprightness of life and his obedience to your commands; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

O Lord, support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in your mercy, grant us a safe lodging and a holy rest, and peace at the last. Amen.

VIDEO: Hail St. Joseph (Jonathan Hasey, 2016; Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Liverpool, England, 1891) – Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist, 2020
Josh, can you please explain to an under-educated United Methodist what the “TR” after St. Joseph’s name stands for? Thanks. Rev. Daniel Davis (ret.)

Sure, I know this confuses people. St. Joseph’s Day fell on a Sunday this year, so it was “Transferred” to today. This is only done on major feast days directly touching Christ’s own life and career.
Including it in our headline may confuse the public, but we keep it to indicate why we’re celebrating the feast a day late. “Everybody” knows St. Patrick’s Day, a minor feast, is March 17, but few people have memorized March 19 as Joseph’s – which is kind of sad, considering Joseph’s immense importance in Christ’s life.

Hi,
I was looking over the Hymn. I believe that it has been sung once or twice. It is a nice Hymn. (A Hymn is matter of factly sung by males or a male with females harmonizing. Many don’t know that.)
Matter of factly, it seems that many individuals listen to music/songs + such played on the radio and sold at every day places to find out if they can make them gospel. 🤕😭🙁😲😳
Very wrong! Most of what is sold is entertainment and is supposed to make you happier in general just by listening to it. Others have to have a warning on them or are kept by schools of knowledge. (secrets).
My hope is that Christians and other religious orders will compose and write their own Psalms and Hymns as their religious order is supposed to.
