All Female Spacewalk Slated 10.21.19 Christina H. Koch & Jessica Meir on ISS.NASA

Two U.S. astronauts, Christina H. Koch, left, and Jessica Meir, are currently aboard the International Space Station making their first space flights, and they just found out they’ll be teamed up on the first all-female spacewalk October 21 to plug new batteries into the station’s solar power system. Men first went walking in space in 1965, and a total of 215 men have done it since then, versus only 14 women; Meir and Koch’s astronaut Class of 2013 was the first to feature gender balance. Koch is an electrical engineer and Meir is a marine biologist. (NASA)
