miami closes concourse g.lynnesladkyap

Miami International Airport announced it is closing Concourse G this weekend because too many security screeners are calling in sick, since they’re not getting paid during the government shutdown. They’re among 800,000 government workers who have been laid off without pay; many more non-government contractors are also affected by the longest shutdown in U.S. history. If other airports follow Miami’s lead, public pressure on Congress and the executive branch will only intensify as disrupting air travel sends shudders throughout the economy. (Lynne Sladky/AP)
