Hieronymous Bosch: Fall of the Rebel Angels. Scholars are not sure what the story of the Nephilim is about in Genesis 4, but they are called “sons of God,” who might be angels. They notice the proliferation of human beings on the Earth, come down and mate with women, producing a tribe of giant warriors, and then dying because of their disobedience. God regrets creating humanity, but sees the righteousness of one man, Noah, whom God decides to spare along with his family and pairs of animals to repopulate the world.
