The First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas reopened Sunday night, but not for public worship; as a memorial. The pews and furnishings were removed and everything was painted white, including folding chairs indicating the names and locations of the 26 victims of a mass murderer who shot up the church a week ago. Regular Sunday services were held at a ballfield nearby. (Drew Anthony Smith/The New York Times)
