Prince George, Winyah is an Episcopal church with a fascinating history in Georgetown, South Carolina. It’s a colonial church dating to 1726, and at one time the parish was the unit of local government; the name refers to the then-Prince of Wales who became George II. This brick church was built in 1745 with port fees and taxpayer money from the Colonial Assembly. Today it’s one of the oldest congregations in the state, with one of the oldest buildings in continuous use; it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. (Elisa Rolle)
