John Henry Newman was a founder of the Oxford Movement and author of the famous Tract 90, which argued against “sola scriptura,” or taking the Bible as the only source of teaching authority, and provoked a firestorm of controversy. Eventually he fled to the Roman Catholic Church, where his relationships were no less stormy.
