Pope Francis visited Malmos, Sweden a few days ago to encourage reconciliation between Rome and World Lutheranism, kicking off a year of activities leading to the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s nailing “95 Theses” to the church door in Wittenburg and the beginning of the Protestant Reform. But the pope made much more news during an airborne news conference on his way home, in which he asserted that the Roman Church will never ordain women priests because John Paul II said not to – a stance likely to make more Protestants over time.
