Anne Ayres’ Sisters of the Holy Communion did not wear habits or take life vows because of the Protestant sensibility of the era; they were still the first Episcopal women’s order in the United States. She was a full partner of Fr. Muhlenberg in all his mission projects, and after his death wrote his biography. (
