The retired Archbishop of Sydney Peter Jensen told a royal commission investigating clergy sexual abuse two weeks ago that he “wasn’t fully aware of the impact” paedophiles have when they prey upon children, echoing claims made by Roman Catholic clerics throughout the world; their purpose is to divert attention from the victims, changing the subject from “what did you know and when did you know it” to “the state of medical knowledge long ago.” But rape was immoral back in St. Paul’s day, and now the victims, their families and the Church get to live with the consequences.
