While same-sex marriage won the refendum in Ireland on Saturday, Gay life in the former British Honduras is the opposite. Caleb Orozco, shown with his mother Perla, is the only LGBT activist in Belize and faces daily harassment and threats just walking to the bank or grocery store. Homosexuality is illegal there, a legacy of the old Empire. Five years ago he filed a lawsuit to overturn Section 53; the Supreme Court took three years to hear it and has never issued a ruling. Of the 76 nations that still criminalize “sodomy,” most are former British colonies. (Ryan Pfluger/The New York Times)
