Charlotte Reihlen, text, and Paul Beckmann, illustration: The Broad and the Narrow Way, a famous painting of the Pietist movement championed by Pastor Muhlenberg and others, which stressed the personal aspect of salvation, somewhat to the exclusion of any other level. The narrow path is steep and not so popular, but leads to a golden city in the sky; all the fun is happening on the broad way, but it leads to a fiery perdition. Interestingly, there are a couple of bridges between the two paths.
