Thomas Chandler was a disciple of Samuel Johnson’s and continued Cutler’s advocacy for an American bishop. London finally named him Bishop of Nova Scotia, Canada, but by then he was dying and unable to accept – and a Bishop of Nova Scotia wouldn’t have helped the new Episcopal Church in the United States.
