The curtain of the Temple was torn in two at the time of Christ’s crucifixion. Also known as a veil, the curtain was a sign of separation between God and humankind. Christ’s Crucifixion penetrated that barrier. And like any rending of garments in the Bible, it also signifies anguish and deep mourning. (artist unknown)
