Joey Velasco: Table of Hope. The artist met these hungry children in Manila and Quezon City, the Philippines, fed them and took their photographs, then painted them into his Last Supper. These kids, he said, were all so hungry that a whole day’s bowl of rice wasn’t enough.
A very moving piece. May the Lord help us to set tables of hope for the hungry, and bless all food pantries and soup kitchens.

Thank you so much, Josh. So moving. I suspect Jesus is more present with the hungry, in soup kitchens, in homeless shelters, and out on the street than He ever could be with the modern-day Pharisees in fancy $1 million sanctuaries.

I’m going to celebrate Easter tomorrow at my parish food pantry. The customers are a lot of fun!
