He excelled in preaching and administration; his letter to the Council of Chalcedon on the human and divine natures of the one Christ proved such a definitive answer, in the midst of raging controversy, that the question was effectively settled. The Definition of the Union of the Divine and Human Natures in the Person of Christ is printed in the U.S. Book of Common Prayer, along with the Athanasian Creed and the 39 Articles.
