Anglicans have prayed in their native languages since 1549 because of Archbishop Thomas Cranmer, general editor of the Book of Common Prayer. He combined various services from the elaborate monastic Liturgy of the Hours to give us Morning and Evening Prayer, and eloquent phrases used throughout the English-speaking world. (artist unknown)
